ORGANISERS of the 23rd National Arts Merit Awards (NAMA) have urged creatives to submit their works ahead of next year’s awards ceremony.
After this year’s edition, NAMA will end their marriage with Jacaranda Cultural Media Corporation (JCMC) who have steered the ship as their events managers since 2019.
Addressing the media this morning in Harare, National Arts Council of Zimbabwe executive director, Napoleon Nyanhi said the feedback from the country’s 10 provinces is overwhelming.
“A lot of valuable feedback was obtained and today we present changes that have been made to the awards to enhance efficiency, transparency and fairness on the adjudication.
“On the 1st of September, our revamped website will offer creatives an opportunity to witness what the new NAMA is all about.
“Submissions are open throughout the year with consideration given to works produced from 1 December 2023 to 30 November 2024. Entry is strictly for Zimbabwean nationals,” he said.
There are new categories, with three new awards added to the Visual Arts Category to accommodate the diversity in this genre.

In the Dance Category, a dance production may not be an existing group but an ensemble that was put together for a specific piece of work.
JCMC director, Tinashe Kitchen said they worked well with NAMA.
“It is time for our next venture and we appreciate the times we had. We want to bring NAMA to the people, unlock dreams and reach all areas across Zimbabwe
“As such, we will bow down boldly and elegantly. It has been an amazing journey,” he said.
