A total of 105 civil servants have received certificates in cyber security following a week-long training that was conducted by the Ministry of Information Communication Technology (ICT), Postal and Courier Services in partnership with Huawei Zimbabwe.
The training is part of the Government’s efforts to strengthen cyber security within Zimbabwe’s civil service.
Minister of ICT, Postal and Courier Services, Dr Tatenda Mavetera said the importance of cyber security can never be overstated.
“As we embrace the benefits of ICT in enhancing Government’s operations, we must be vigilant in safeguarding our digital infrastructure against the ever-evolving threats that lurk in cyberspace. We must ensure that no one and no place is left behind in cyber security awareness,” she said.
In a speech read on his behalf, Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ) director-general, Dr Gift Machengete said the global landscape has changed drastically, with the amount of data consumed in 2023 doubling that consumed from 2000 to 2022.
“This surge in data usage has ushered in a new world order, thereby making cybersecurity a critical aspect of our digital lives. Our duty as public servants is to stay ahead of the curve, ensuring that our digital infrastructure is not only functional but resilient against the ever-evolving threats we face.”
