He was later on voted the best fighter of the tournament and he was upgraded to the brown belt.
Saungweme is now set to fight for honours against some of the country’s best fighters when he takes part in the national championships to be held this weekend in the capital.
Another major highlight was the heavyweight match between Trymore Ndou and Emmanuel Mudenge.
Ndou accumulated 21 points to emerge the winner against Mudenge who had 19 points.
One of the tournament organisers, Godfrey Muzvidziwa, said he was happy with the development of the sport in the province.
“The guys did very well, I was very impressed with the way they displayed their skills and the way they conducted themselves during the tournament.
“This was our first event at provincial level and most of the people didn’t participate because they thought it was a dangerous sport but after seeing these guys fighting they realised this is an interesting sport, it’s just like any other sport and we hope they will join us for future events.
“We also had people from the business community who attended the tournament and they were impressed, so we hope we will be able to get sponsors.
Muzvidziwa said they were now focusing on the national championships and expecting to field three fighters. We have spoken to the president (Tony Kamangira) about the national event and we are sending three people to represent us.
“We have Saungweme, he did very well during the tournament and was the fighter of the tournament.
