RG’s Office urged to expedite mop up exercise

ZANU-PF Midlands Provincial chairperson Cde Daniel Mackenzie Ncube has taken a swipe at mobile registration teams from the Registrar-General’s Office that are not adhering to the stipulated days that they are supposed to cover specific areas under the Vital Civil Mop Up Mobile Registration Exercise.

Cde Ncube, who was in Simchembo area in Gokwe North yesterday, said although the mobile registration teams were present, they should adhere to the stipulated programme.

“I am here in Simchembo area in Gokwe North. The mobile teams are supposed to be at the centre for four days, but I am surprised that at some centres they were only available for one day.

“I think this is not fair considering that many people in such peripheral areas like this one deserve to have their chance to obtain national identity documents,” he said

Cde Ncube said Zanu-PF was concerned with such a development and they expect the mobile teams to be flexible enough to cater for all wards as stipulated in the national programme.

“We have engaged the teams, but they are citing logistical challenges. According to the scheduled dates for example, Simchembo primary school they are supposed to be there for four days, but they were only available one day,” he said.

He urged party supporters in the province to take advantage of the ongoing mobile registration exercise to acquire national identity documents to enable them to register to vote.

The mobile registration programme, which started on Monday this week will run until the 16th of next month.

“We are encouraging party supporters in village, wards and district to take advantage of the mobile registration exercise as it comes to their doorsteps,” he said.

Cde Ncube, however, expressed optimism that the mobile registrations would increase the number of potential voters for the ruling party.

“We are optimistic that we will surpass the province’s target of 800 000 voters. As of last week the statistics were standing at 740 000.

“I have observed here that many people had not registered to vote due to lack of national identity documents. Currently, I am seeing more school leavers obtaining their national documents.”
