Rhinos fall short again

cricket franchises but they seem to have perfected the bridegroom’s role after failing in yet another final on Sunday.
Rhinos, who were the crowd favourites, failed to convert another finale into honours when they lost to the Southern Rocks by eight wickets in the MetBank Pro40 finals at Harare Sports Club.
Rhinos could count themselves unlucky after featuring in the finals of the domestic competitions four times in two seasons and still their trophy cabinet remains empty. Last year they reached the finals of the Logan Cup and the Faithwear MetBank One-Day tournament where they lost to Mashonaland Eagles and Mountaineers respectively.
The script seems to have rewritten itself this year after the Kwekwe-based franchise perished in the Stanbic Bank T20 finals against Eagles and finished runners-up to Southern Rocks in the Metbank Pro40 Championships on Sunday.
The defeat on Sunday meant they finished their season empty handed as they are out of the running for the Logan Cup, which will feature Mountaineers and Matabeleland Tuskers in the final beginning tomorrow. Franchise chief executive officer Kenyon Ziehl, however, said they will come back stronger next season.
“We haven’t crossed the line. It has been brilliant I tell you, we’re over the moon just to get into two out of three finals and it’s just unfortunate that we haven’t crossed the line there but we were very close,” said Ziehl.
The Rhinos are a solid side, their top order is made up of Brendan Taylor, Vusi Sibanda and Bothwell Chapungu speaks volumes for itself.
Ian Nicolson, Graeme Cremer and young Simon Mugava all make up a solid bowling unit for the team.
“The guys have worked hard and they’ve got a good spirit and good team ethic. The discipline is there and I am still happy about making two out of three finals in the inaugural year,” said Ziehl.
