Black Rhinos………………………. 1 (2)
Triangle ………………………………… 1
Black Rhinos coach Stanford Mutizwa wants consistence from his charges who showed mettle in a come from behind victory over Triangle in a Chibuku Super Cup first round clash at Rufaro yesterday.
The hosts, Rhinos, were trailing as early as the fourth minute after a Russell Madamombe header beat Herbert Rusawo in goals for Chauya Chipembere. They, however, refocused to restore parity through their diminutive forward Lot Chiunga in the 19th minute.
Farai Banda’s second half header ensured Mutizwa’s men progressed to the quarter-final stage of the Chibuku Super Cup.
“It was disappointing to concede an early goal but I am proud of my boys for sticking to our plan,” said Mutizwa.
“I am happy with this win because we have struggled in the league, we want momentum by scoring goals since we haven’t been putting away most of our chances.
His counterpart Taurai Mangwiro was livid at how referee Brighton Chimene “ignored” some physical clashes from Black Rhinos players.
“I think you have never seen me going outside my technical box, but I had to because we were not protected on some of the physical challenges and we were even forced to substitute because of the challenges,” said Mangwiro.
“It was disappointing to concede an early goal. l believe we should have carried our lead perhaps to half-time and we had never lost a match in which we led, so l am disappointed,” he said.
For a team that has been struggling in the Castle Lager Premier League, with no wins in their last nine matches, fears were that the dismal form would spill over into the Cup game.
But thanks to Chiunga who was guilty of missing two fairly easy first half chances, Chauya Chipembere drew level as Triangle fizzled out of the game.
It was no surprise Black Rhinos took the lead through Banda in the 67th minute and that was all they needed on the day.
