RIA boss wins presidential award

of Merit to the Motherland by President Dmitry Medvedev yesterday for “development of the Russian entrepreneurship, the mass media, culture and arts.”
Russian president Medvedev gran-ted 39 state awards to a variety of professionals who have excelled in their profession, including researchers, designers, businessmen, farm workers, a provincial teacher and an orpha-nage director.
Medvedev described all of them as people of high professional standards.
In September, the International Olympic Committee appointed RIA Novosti as the host national news age-ncy and the national olympic photo pool for the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games.
IOC Press Commission Chairman Kevan Gosper announced the Committee’s decision to RIA Novosti editor-in-chief Svetlana Mironyuk during his September visit to Moscow.
“We are proud to announce that RIA Novosti was chosen as the host national news agency for the Sochi 2014 Olympics,” Gosper said at a RIA Novosti press conference.
The IOC appreciated RIA Novosti’s efforts in promoting Olympic values and informing its audience about the preparation process for the games, he added.
As the host national news agency for the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games, RIA Novosti will enjoy similar status and privileges to the world news agencies officially recognised by the IOC: the Associated Press, Reuters and Agence France-Presse.
Last July, the RIA Novosti chief was recognised for her work with a Russian Media Manager 2011 award. – RIA Novosti.
