Rice packs for rural households

At least 500 households in 10 wards of the drought hit area of Mukumbura in Mt darwin, Mashonaland Central Province, have received rice packs from the Buddhist Tzu Chi Foundation from Taiwan.

The foundation is undertaking humanitarian activities in the country.

The donation comes at a time when Government has intensified efforts to mitigate effects of the El-Nino induced drought.

Speaking at the handover of three tonnes of the cereal, Small to Medium Enterprises and Cooperative Development Deputy Minister Noveti Muponera who is also the National Assembly member for Mt Darwin North said the aid provides relief to people in the area.

“The donation mainly benefited the elderly and orphans in the area. It will help, we thank the foundation for this donation,” he said.

The Tzu Chi Foundation is also looking into how it can assist rural schools with learning materials and infrastructure.
