Micah Richards has praised Vitor Pereira’s tactical decision to play Zimbabwe international midfielder Marshall Munetsi in a more advanced role after Wolverhampton Wanderers’ impressive 4-2 win against Tottenham.
The Molineux outfit secured their fourth Premier League win in a row on Sunday and scored four goals for only the second time this campaign as they dominated Spurs with a convincing performance.
While Rayan Ait-Nouri was the star of the show with a goal and an assist, Richards claimed it was Munetsi who impressed him once more as he played in an attacking midfield role.
The 28-year-old Warriors captain, who joined Wolves from Stade Reims in January, made his seventh straight start in the Premier League − and fifth in a row in a more advanced role − despite originally being signed as a defensive midfielder.
Speaking on The Rest is Football podcast, Richards hailed Pereira’s decision to play Munetsi in a more advanced role after Wolves’ 4-2 win over Spurs:
“I think another player as well, Munetsi, who sort of plays in midfield. So when I was reading stats about Munetsi a couple of weeks ago, when we were doing Match of the Day, all his stats said he was a defensive midfielder.
“But the way Wolves played him, he was playing sort of false nine and then a number eight position where he really gets into the box as well.
“So, it’s little tactical tweaks like that the manager has been able to do to get them playing football, and they deserve all the credit.”
Munetsi has already been deployed in as many as four different positions for Wolves, including at centre-forward and on the left wing, in just eight Premier League appearances.
The 28-year-old has managed to score and assist once so far, helping Wolves go unbeaten in the league since the start of March.
Pereira’s side have climbed up to 15th following Sunday’s win and are now just three points off Manchester United, whom they face at Old Trafford this weekend − GIVEMESPORT.
