A Mutambara man and his children are not seeing eye-to-eye after he inherited a family rifle that is believed to be cursed.

The heirloom has been passed down the family’s six generations.

Jeremiah Magwanyata, a white garment prophet, also stands accused of using supernatural powers to lure clients.

Appearing before Acting Chief Mutambara last week on Saturday, Rismore Magwanyata said his father is behind the family’s problems.

Rismore said although his father has returned the firearm to its rightful owner, he has remained with the curse that was on the gun.

“Our ancestors had a family rifle which could only be inherited by the family’s father figure. The gun was used to protect the family and our forefathers used it for hunting.

“However, greed overcame some of our forefathers and one of them shot and killed the rightful heir with that gun. From then on, the gun became cursed and nobody wanted to inherit it.

“Years back, the rightful heir did not collect the gun from my grandfather until he died. My grandfather succumbed to the curse of the gun, he developed a mental health problem before his death. He would go around carrying a bow and an arrow. At his funeral, the rightful heir didn’t take possession of the gun. He gave it to my father and since then, everything has been upside down in our family. When my father finally returned the gun to its rightful owner, the curse did not leave and it has been tormenting us.

“I have been bedridden for years because of the curse. No one in our family is gainfully employed. We are the community’s laughing stock because of the curse. We want to be freed from this curse,” said Rismore.

“My father also realised that I was a prolific prophet and he usurped my powers. This is the greediness that has seen the gun landing in the wrong hands. I want all the money that my father got from his clients as he has been using me in healing his clients. I want what is mine, my sweat and blood,” he said.

Jeremiah, however, insisted that his prophetic powers come from God.

“I am a prophet that is known everywhere. I never used the gun or any supernatural powers to hoodwink people. These are all lies,” he said.

He said he took possession of the gun after his uncle tricked him into taking it.
