THE goal of ensuring universal access to electricity in rural areas has been realised at Rimai Secondary School in Ward 25, Mutema-Musikavanhu Constituency, following the successful installation of electricity at the institution.
Under the Second Republic, led by President Mnangagwa, Zimbabwe has recorded remarkable economic progress across multiple sectors by harnessing locally available resources in line with the National Development Strategy (NDS1and NDS2) and Vision 2030, while also working in partnership with development agencies.
The electrification of Rimai Secondary School is a clear demonstration of Government’s commitment to its guiding principle of “leaving no one and no place behind” in the national development agenda.
This milestone was made possible through the dedication and resourcefulness of the Constituency’s House of Assembly representative and Primary and Secondary Education Deputy Minister, Honourable Angeline Gata.
Her tireless efforts to deliver on electoral promises—particularly in infrastructure development and the provision of essential social services—have brought tangible improvements to Rimai Secondary School, and continue to uplift communities across Mutema-Musikavanhu Constituency.
Deputy Minister Gata expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Energy and Power Development for spearheading the electrification of the school.
“I would like to thank the Ministry of Energy and Power Development for the electrification of Rimai Secondary School. In the Second Republic, we are committed to ensuring that every citizen has access to basic services such as electricity. This initiative is clear proof that President Mnangagwa is walking the talk on his Government’s resolve to leave no one and no place behind.
Electricity and education are key priorities under the National Development Strategy, and we are proud to be implementing projects like this one which will uplift learners and teachers while driving economic growth. This project demonstrates the power of partnership in achieving meaningful development outcomes,” said Deputy Minister Gata.
For the Rimai community, this development marks the dawn of a new era.
Ward 25 councillor, Councillor Pioneer Manyama Gavhumende could not hide his excitement: “We have been lagging behind as a community, and this will certainly put us on the map. Electricity will go a long way in ensuring that learners and teachers are comfortable, improving their lives and enhancing teaching and learning activities. This is a very good gesture and worth thanking.”
Parents also welcomed the development.
Cde Dudzai Dhundu, whose child is enrolled at the school, highlighted the educational benefits: “The availability of electricity has significant implications for both learners and the community. It will improve overall performance, as students can now study at night and use modern ICT gadgets for research.”
Since 2018, the Second Republic has embarked on at least 7 000 development projects nationwide, with 5 000 already completed. Deputy Minister Gata reaffirmed Government’s commitment.
“The ultimate aim is to improve the quality of life in our constituency, province, and country at large. We will continue our mission of transforming living standards, with a focus on accelerating the welfare of marginalised rural communities first.”
Local villager, Miss Takawira Mushimika, also applauded the initiative.
“This project shows that Government is living up to its promises of ensuring all citizens lead a decent life by providing key services like electricity. It aligns perfectly with President Mnangagwa’s Vision 2030, which seeks to transform Zimbabwe into an upper middle-income economy by 2030. We are proud and excited about these developments.”
