FAST growing hip-hop promoting group “Swag On Deck” popularly known as “SOD” in the entertainment circles will tomorrow hold its fifth anniversary bash featuring 22 top hip-hop DJs and artistes at the Red Fox Club in Greendale. SOD will mark five years in the cut-throat entertainment scene on Sunday August 25 but the anniversary celebrations will be held tomorrow.
A lot of exciting activities have been lined up and organisers of the gig vowed to set ablaze Red Fox Club a place better known as “Kumarasta” by many revellers thanks to non-stop weekly reggae and dancehall music gigs held at the venue.
SOD co-founder Gerald “Jellzy” Themba said all was set for the much-hyped bash which is expected to bring together all hip-hop music fanatics.
“We know the nation is waiting to see what we are going to produce from this anniversary gig, but trust me, SOD has more to showcase as part of Zimbabwean arts scene growth.
“We are happy with the recent inroads we have made as a party-providing group and all our followers and fans embraced our call to give a new look of the SOD family as we are trying to promote music of all upcoming and little-known artistes across all genre,” said Jellzy.
The fast rising SOD is really a powerful brand judging from the recent developments which saw the group co-hosting big South African artistes and their role at the last Jibilika event.
The group, which started as a party and birthday bash organising team, has taken the arts scene by storm since its inception in 2009.
In what is going to show maturity and a well-organised stunt, SOD is expected to donate some of the proceeds from the show to the less privileged.
The group’s boss lady, Tasha Gwiza, revealed that plans were afoot to share proceeds of the gigs with one of the yet to be chosen children’s home in Waterfalls shortly after tomorrow’s gig.
“In this business, giving and sharing with other sectors that are also sweating to avail funds and food for the vulnerable groups is more than making profit.
“Our major plan is to be trendsetters and we are looking forward to go the extra mile in promoting not only music but promoting goodwill among the people,” said Tasha.
Top local DJs will take centre stage on the turntables while the finest hip-hop artistes will share the stage will a host of other aspiring up and coming artistes as part of the massive celebrations.
The plan for a donation for some of the proceeds will be a landmark as the group has already done more in the competitive entertainment scene.
SOD had already made inroads to engage other potential and influential South African promotional brands. They co-hosted South African hip-hop artiste AKA, the Breakdown Down and the Miss Harare 2013 which handed them credibility on the arts scene.
