Rising star from Bindura

There should be something special about the town of Bindura that transcends generations.
And this special thing seems to inspire musicians to pen songs for the Mashonaland Central provincial capital. Yesteryear musician James Chimombe’s song “Bindura” was a hit that presented the town as a place that has solutions to problems.
Decades down the line a young female Bindura-based musician has penned a song for her home town, in which she talks about how she was raised and how the residents are united, showering the place with praises.

Shamiso Nduru said she was inspired by the way she grew up in the lovely town of Bindura to compose the track that is on her second album “Kuchaya Mapoto”.
She recorded her first album “Gara Muberere” with Prince Kudakwashe Musarurwa who is still basking in the glory of the hit track he did with Pah Chihera, “Runonzi Rudo”.

In this song titled “Bindura”, Shamiso marvels at how loving, united and hardworking Bindura residents are, “Tiri veBindura takabatana, united we stand divided we fall,” she sings on the track.

Other songs on the six-track album include, “Kuchaya Mapoto” on which she denounces co-habiting and unveils how this type of ‘marriage’ is marred by domestic violence, deception and promiscuity, “Usandikanganwe” and “Handidzoke Kumusha”.

Shamiso said she draws her inspiration from Oliver Mtukudzi but there is an unmistakable flavour of Pah Chihera’s beat in all her songs which she attributes to working with her ever since she ventured onto the music scene. Shamiso urged fellow musicians to stay focused and not relax when they get support from fans.

“I want to urge other musicians to stay focused. They must not relax once they have realized they are getting so much support because that’s where most musicians are getting it wrong,” she said.

“They should keep working hard and be undaunted in delivering quality music if the music industry is to receive overwhelming response internationally.”
She says she is grateful for the support she has received but admitted the going is still tough as she cannot afford simple basics like equipment, let alone hold live shows.
