ROAD Wolf, a new coach fleet that recently launched its Bulawayo-Harare route in March, is emphasising the critical importance of adhering to road traffic rules in the lead-up to and during the upcoming Independence and Easter holidays.
The holiday period, spanning from Friday to Monday, coincides with the country’s Independence celebrations.
“As we approach this traditionally high-risk period, we want to strongly encourage caution on the roads during the Independence and Easter holiday. We are emphasising road safety and responsible travel. We urge all road users to adhere to traffic laws, exercise caution while driving, and maintain vigilance on the roads,” said Road Wolf Coaches Manager Lisa Mugoma.
Last year’s statistics paint a grim picture, with 27 fatalities and 159 injuries reported in 286 road traffic accidents during the Easter holiday alone. On Independence Day, an additional nine deaths and 25 injuries resulted from 100 recorded accidents.
In response to these concerns, the government launched the 2025 Independence and Easter Road Safety Campaign on Monday. Authorities plan to deploy breathalysers and advanced road surveillance technologies in an effort to reduce traffic accidents.
The campaign launch took place in Mashonaland Central province and was attended by prominent figures including the Minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development Felix Mhona, Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Minister Kazembe Kazembe, his deputy Chido Sanyatwe, Mashonaland Central Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Christopher Magomo, as well as senior government and police officials.
Road Wolf Coaches operates daily services between Harare and Bulawayo at 07:30hrs and 14:00hrs. The new coach line offers passengers amenities such as air conditioning, onboard WiFi, and complimentary snacks and a meal.
