A BUHERA man has been sentenced to ten years in jail after he robbed a shop of goods worth US$250.

The matter was heard before Rusape Magistrates’ Regional Court where Masimba Maodzwa (21) was sentenced to 10 years in prison for robbing a Buhera shop.

According to a statement released by The National Prosecuting Authority, Maodzwa and an accomplice on August 16 last year, broke into the Manyebvu Shop at Marenga Business Centre around 2am where they threatened an 18-year-old shopkeeper with a firearm, demanding cash and cellphones.

They stole a variety of items valued at US$250.

“Police investigations led to Maodzwa’s arrest and the recovery of most of the stolen property ($225 worth). The sentence reflects the severity of the crime and the use of a firearm to threaten the victim,” reads the statement.
