Robber kills for R5

A 28-year-old man is on the run after allegedly robbing a shop at Chipato Business Centre in Zaka, Masvingo, before murdering a female worker.

Police confirmed the murder of Grace Mberengwa (24) a fortnight ago, saying they had launched a manhunt for Norman Gurazheve of Madise Village under Chief Nyakunhuwa in Masvingo.

Masvingo provincial police spokesperson Inspector Charity Mazula said the murder took place at the business centre on March 4 around 2pm.

According to the police, the accused grabbed R5 from the till while threatening to harm Mberengwa.

“Mberengwa sensed danger and tried to escape with Gurazheve in pursuit,” said Insp Mazula. “The accused managed to catch up with Mberengwa before hitting her with a log on the back of the head. She sustained a deep cut.”

Mberengwa was taken to Ndanga Hospital where she died the following day. Insp Mazula appealed to the public for information that could lead to Gurazheve’s arrest.
