A FUEL service station attendant is lucky to be alive after five armed robbers raided the fuel service station and tied his hands to a pole before they allegedly blasted a safe box with dynamite and took US$4100.

The five robbers were armed with an iron bar, dynamite, an electric cable and a knife. They pounced at Flo garage situated at Bulawayo’s Richmond suburb on Tuesday at around 1AM. It is said when they arrived at the garage they went straight to an office where the fuel attendant was sleeping and knocked on the door.

“Upon hearing the sound on the door the fuel attendant pressed the alarm to alert the security guard. The robbers used an unknown object and opened the door before entering the office,” said the source.

They threatened to stab him after that they dragged him out of the office to a pole and tied his hands to it, said the source.

Following that they carried out their mission.

“They used dynamite to blast the safe box and took US$4 100, three cell phones, and a DVR (CCT saver). After that they fled,” said the source.

Later on, two security guards arrived at the scene and untied the fuel attendant. The incident was reported at Sauerstown Police Station. Bulawayo Police Spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the incident.

“We would like to discourage companies from keeping money at the company premises. They must keep money at the banks.

Companies should also beef up their security and they are strongly discouraged to operate without a security guard,” he said.

He appealed for information that could lead to the arrest of the robbers.

“Anyone with information which could lead to the arrest of the robbers should contact any nearest police station,” he said.
