POLICE have launched a manhunt for three armed robbers who were captured on closed-circuit television (CCTV) robbing a supermarket in Bulawayo’s Emganwini suburb recently.
Police have released CCTV images of the man committing the crime.
The supermarket has CCTV which managed to capture the robbers before, during and just after the robbery.
In a statement, police spokesperson Inspector Mandlenkosi Moyo said the three culprits pounced on Blessing City Store on February 7 at about 7.32PM before getting away with $1,400.
“Police in Bulawayo are appealing for information which may lead to the location of three armed robbers captured on CCTV . . . the incident occurred within a space of one minute 10 seconds and thereafter the accused persons disappeared into the darkness,” he said.
“These criminals are highly dangerous and should be approached with caution as they are armed.”
Insp Moyo appealed to those with information that may lead to the identification and arrest of the accused to come forward. He said anyone with information can contact the police through suggestion boxes, or call the CID homicide squad on (09)71568, the Officer in Charge Chief Inspector Mpofu on 0713254081, investigating officer detective sergeant Marandure on 0772656579 or to report to any nearest police station.
In the past few months, Bulawayo recorded several armed robberies where thousands of dollars were looted from city stores.
In December, armed robbers believed to be operating as an organised syndicate, pounced on SonMart and RohMart supermarkets and got away with $59,000.
Several other shops were also robbed in the city between December and February and suspicion is that the same syndicate could have been behind some of the robberies.
Police have been encouraging the installation of CCTV on business premises so as to aid them in cases where crimes would have been committed.
