POLICE have confirmed the arrest and conviction of Conrad Moyo (22) and Milford Sidahkwa (24) from Hopley Zone 6 in Harare.
The pair has been sentenced to a total of 65 years in prison for a series of robberies in Beatrice.
On March 5, 2026, at approximately 10pm, Moyo and Sidahkwa, along with an accomplice still at large, Shadreck Shava, embarked on a violent crime spree in Beatrice.
Armed with a bolt cutter, an okapi knife, a small axe, an electric shocker, and a machete, they confronted and assaulted a security guard, forcing him into a nearby bar.
In the course of the robbery, the assailants targeted the bar lady, stealing cash, a cellphone, and several bottles of beer.
They viciously stabbed the security guard with the okapi knife, compelling him to surrender his cellphone in fear for his life.
Detective Inspector Rachel Muteweri of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) reported that on March 11, 2026, the duo was sentenced to 65 years in prison with hard labour, 15 years of which were suspended on the condition that they do not commit similar or any other dishonest offences within the next five years.
“Their crime spree did not end there,” said Det-Insp Muteweri. “They proceeded to a nearby motel, forcing open locked doors and robbing guests of cash and other valuables.”
The suspects met another victim and stole US$609 and four cellphones. They even attempted to hijack a Toyota March, which they planned to use as a getaway vehicle.
“However, their getaway was thwarted when the car became stuck in the mud just 20 meters from the property, forcing them to abandon it.”
Following a police report, local law enforcement combed the area, leading to the arrest of Conrad Moyo.
He implicated Milford Sidahkwa, who was arrested at Gowerlands farm in Beatrice. Both men were charged with 11 counts of robbery.
Authorities recovered several items used in the commission of the crimes, including a bolt cutter, machete, electric shocker, and axe.
They also seized US$780 and nine cellphones, all of which have been positively identified by the victims.
On March 9, 2026, the duo appeared before Magistrate Sharon Nxongo at the Beatrice Magistrates Court, with Public Prosecutor Butt Malunga representing the state.
This case serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing challenge of crime in the community and the commitment of law enforcement to bring perpetrators to justice.
