Robbers snatch 21 bales of tobacco

SIX armed robbers struck at Landos Farm in Headlands and made good their escape with property worth close to two million dollars.

Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luxson Chananda, confirmed the robbery which happened at Landos Farm in Headlands on June 30 and said investigations are in progress.

“We can confirm the robbery which happened at Landos Farm where six armed robbers stole 21 standard bales of tobacco, an angle grinder and other workshop equipment valued at$1 831 532 ,”said Inspector Chananda.

He said two security guards were on duty that night when they were attacked by the robbers.

“One of the security guards, Sandosi Jokonya, was patrolling the gazebo which is behind the farm shed when he was attacked by the six robbers who were wearing masks and armed with knives.

“The robbers tied Jokonya with a rope. They ordered him to comply with their orders before asking for the location of the other guard who was on duty, Pardon Mazambani.

“The robbers went on to attack Mazambani and tied him with a rope. They demanded keys for the main gate. Five of the suspects went to the farm shed, while one of them was left to guard Mazambani and Jokonya,” said Inspector Chananda.

He added: “They stole 21 standard bales of tobacco, an angle grinder and other workshop equipment which they loaded into a vehicle before driving away.”

The guards later freed themselves and reported the robbery to their security supervisor, Amon Mazambani.

A police report was made at Headlands Police Station.
Nothing has been recovered so far.
