Robbers use electric shockers to torture couple

Walmsley and armed robbery of valuables worth US$3 670.
A third suspect, Tafadzwa Maminimini is still being hunted.

Clemence Maminimini and Mubariri last week appeared before Harare magistrate Mr Donald Ndirowei for remand on the three charges.
They were not asked to plead and were remanded in custody to May 9 and told only the High Court could grant bail for such serious offences.

Appearing for the State Miss Junior Mugebe said that on March 27 this year, the three went to the Walmsley’s house in Avonlea having armed themselves with bolt cutters, iron bars and electric shockers.

They removed a pillar from the pre-cast wall to gain entry, then forced open the toilet window and cut the burglar bars using the bolt cutters and climbed inside the house.
The State alleged that while in the house, the gang proceeded to Walmsley’s bedroom and confronted him and his wife while they were asleep.

The court heard that the three severely assaulted the couple using iron bars and also tortured them with electric shockers while demanding cash and valuables.
Walmsley became unconscious and was left lying on the floor battling for his life while his wife died as a result of the assault.

The three ransacked the house and stole various Apple gadgets, mobile phones and a handbag containing personal documents.
Clemence and Kindness were arrested on April 20 and they led the police to the recovery of some of the stolen items valued at US$1 670 and showed the police where they had hidden the electric shockers.

On April 23 they were taken to the house and showed the police how they committed the crimes, it is alleged.
