MTHOKOZISI Ngwenya and his unidentified accomplice who is on the run are in trouble after they allegedly attacked a man who had given them a lift home.

They allegedly choked him before robbing him of US$10 and his car. Ngwenya and his accomplice were given a ride home by Arnold Mazibisa (24) who picked them up at the corner of 11th Avenue and Herbert Chitepo Street and drove them to Old Pumula suburb in Bulawayo.

Mazibisa initially had six passengers in his car, who he dropped off at various points along the way. When only Ngwenya and his accomplice remained, they requested to be dropped off near the shops in Old Pumula.

As they were driving to the shops, Ngwenya’s accomplice allegedly grabbed Mazibisa by the neck, instructing him to stop the car. Mazibisa pulled off the road.

The suspects are alleged to have assaulted Mazibisa, demanding money. They allegedly stole US$10 from him. They then drove to a secluded area, where they forced him out of his car and restrained him by tying his hands and feet.

They threatened to kill him before they took his cellphone and used it to call his cousin telling him that Mazibisa had been involved in an accident. They asked him to send money so that they could transport him to the hospital.

However, Mazibisa’s cousin became suspicious and saw through their lie, refusing to send any money. Mazibisa’s cousin reported the matter to the police.

After using the stolen car for their errands, Ngwenya and his accomplice abandoned it in a bushy area near Old Pumula suburb. Ngwenya was arrested and his unidentified accomplice remains at large.

Ngwenya appeared before Western Commonage regional magistrate Sibongile Msipa-Marondedze charged with robbery and theft of a motor vehicle. He was not asked to plead and was remanded in custody to 13 March
