A PARTY pooper from Wanani Mine in Bulawayo will live to regret the day he rained on the parade of revellers.
Like a wet blanket snuffing out all the joy from the party, Aiwero Banda (30) allegedly switched off a radio speaker at around 8 pm, just as the event was coming alive.
He was left fighting for his life after he was allegedly axed on the head by the landlord’s son.
This was revealed when Maqhawe Mahlangu appeared before Bulawayo regional magistrate Matthew Mutiro facing a charge of attempted murder.
He pleaded not guilty and was remanded to Friday for continuation of trial. During cross-examination, Mahlangu stated that the allegations were false as he had gone to switch off power when the victim was axed.
“The allegations are not true; the misunderstanding was a result of the radio speaker that had been turned off before 8 pm. While the victim was being attacked, l had gone to switch off the power supply which is about two meters away from the scene of the crime.
“I never assaulted the victim, he was assaulted by some of the people who were drinking beer in the house. The assertions that l threw stones to break window panes are false because these window panes were broken a long time ago,” said Mahlangu.
State allegations are that on 23 December 2023 at Wanani compound, Mahlangu assaulted Banda with an axe once on the forehead after a misunderstanding.
Banda sustained a deep cut on the forehead after the misunderstanding. He was referred to the hospital for a medical examination.
The matter was reported to the police and investigations were carried out leading to the arrest of Mahlangu.
