Tynwald High School Robotics Club’s success at the 2024 Presidential Innovations Awards this week is a testament to the school’s commitment to pursue Education 5.0.

The school walked away with the best high school award. Through its robotics club, Tynwald continues to shine on the international stage where it has been bagging numerous prizes in various international robotics competitions, including in Milan and New York.

Commenting on the sidelines of the awards ceremony, the school head Mr Kenias Matimba commended the Second Republic’s stance in reconfiguring the education curriculum through the addition of the innovation and industrialisation pillars.

“We are elated to get such an award from His Excellency. We are humbled and motivated to maintain if not improve on our work,” he said.

“As a school, our philosophy is that learners understand concepts better when they get their hands dirty and we have realigned from the competence-based curriculum to heritage-based education where the emphasis is on imparting learners with skills required by industry.”

Among some of its innovative projects, the club developed a prototype that can be used to remove landmines, as well as a combine harvest prototype.

“If effectively implemented, Education 5.0 can immensely contribute to the industrialisation of the country by its own citizens, which dovetails with the mantra nyika inovakwa nevene vayo,” said Mr Matimba.
