AN unbeaten half century from Richmond Mutumbami saw Southern Rocks extend their lead over Matabeleland Tuskers on day two of the four-day Logan Cup cricket encounter between the two franchises at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo yesterday. Mutumbami was not out on 73 runs as Rocks, who made 190 runs in their first innings then bowled out the home side for 166 runs closed the day on 153 runs for the loss of five wickets in 65 overs, a lead of 177 runs for the visitors who have five second innings wickets to spare.
Tuskers had resumed from their overnight score of 106 runs for the loss of four wickets, Godwill Mamhiyo and Tawanda Mupariwa the two batsmen in the middle.
Mamhiyo top scored with 51 runs for Tuskers but the home side could only add 60 runs to their overnight score to incur a first innings deficit of 24 runs.
Prince Masvaure and Luke Jongwe picked up three wickets apiece, Cuthbert Musoko had two wickets to his name while Trevor Garwe took one wicket.
Nyumbu led the Tuskers fight with the ball with three crucial wickets and his bowling would be the key today when the match goes into its third day as it is going to determine the victory target for his team in their second innings.
With Mutumbami, scorer of 87 runs in the first innings still at the crease, Rocks would be looking at setting Tuskers a tough target to chase with chances high the match might be concluded today with both teams standing a great chance of winning it.
