LONDON. – Rodri is tipped to miss the rest of the season in a devastating blow for Manchester City.
The key midfielder suffered torn cruciate ligaments in Sunday’s 2-2 home draw against Arsenal, according to reports in Spain.
Rodri famously went 74 games unbeaten for Pep Guardiola’s champions, a 475-day run ended by FA Cup final defeat to Manchester United in May.
But he went down in agony just EIGHT seconds into a dramatic Premier League match over the weekend, forcing a long delay.
The anchorman, 28, was eventually able to continue, only to be hurt again in another freak incident midway through the first half.
This time Rodri had to be replaced, with Mateo Kovacic coming on.
Now Spanish outlet AS say initial tests on Monday indicate their countryman’s injury is worse than City hoped. AS believe the Euro 2024 winner is likely to sit out the remainder of the campaign as tests revealed a serious ligament problem.
However, it’s understood Rodri will head to Barcelona for a “complete check-up” to see the full extent of his damage, with City yet to confirm how bad the injury is.
