Rodreck Mutuma apologises

DYNAMOS forward Rodreck Mutuma has apologised for his moment of madness during the Chibuku Super Cup first round tie against Black Rhinos at Gwanzura on Sunday. Mutuma was expelled towards the end of the game after attacking Rhinos’ Obey Gada. The Rhinos man was also sent off.

“I never hit anyone on purpose during the game and Obey is my friend. I apologised for hitting him with the elbow because it was a mistake but he wasn’t supposed to react the way he did,” said Mutuma.

“I was waiting for our kick and he hit me from behind and then I fell down.
“I reacted (by head-butting) because the referee saw the incident but did nothing. We make mistakes and it was a tense game and a lot happens.

“For the elbow, I say sorry to Obey but he was not supposed to attack me.” Dynamos coach Callisto Pasuwa said Mutuma should never had taken “the matter into his own hands.”

Gada said Mutuma was to blame for the madness.
“Mutuma elbowed me off the ball when they were preparing to take a corner kick but I am sure the referee did not see anything.
“I moved away and he followed me and head-butted me again and that’s when I retaliated in self defence.

“I did not insult him. I was also given a red card and it was unfortunate,” said Gada.
Rhinos coach Jostein Mathuthu-Mambo, who stormed the pitch and appeared to be holding referee Batsirai Muchenje, should also be punished for his theatrics.
