“It’s good to be here. I know you are all happy to see me. I am to do a couple of local favourite songs for 15 minutes before I introduce you to Mampi who is backstage,” he said.
The musician who was backed by teen dancers such as Real Flex and Magnetic Force from Mbare said Hifa is a good opportunity to showcase your talent.
“I brought dancers from different groups to come and shine here. As you can see they are young, talented and gifted,” said Roki who was clad in black outfit and a matching tie.
Roki performed his hit songs such as “Chidzoka” and “Dandaro” which left the crowd in awe. The dancer did a polished act.
He later introduced a new dance, rock and roll style from the 60s, when he performed the song “H-Town swing”.
However, Mampi’s performance received mixed feelings with the audience though she put up an outstanding show.
Together with her two dancers, Mampi’s routines which were sexually explicit were not meant for the afternoon show.
“I think she went overboard with those dances as this show had a lot of children. What will the children learn from such erotic dances,” said Paidamoyo Makuna from Borrowdale.
Mampi who was at first clad in a skimpy and revealing little black dress and matching spiky shoes took the fans down memory lane when she sang Paul Matavire’s song “Hembe Imwe Chete” in fluent Shona.
“Let’s go back to the 80’s. I know most of you will be shocked that I know the song. Do you still remember this song . . . hembe imwechete woma ndikupfeke unondida here . . . I loved the song and Zimbabwe is a good place to be. I am here to entertain you,” she said.
She later changed to a bum short and an aerobic top. The energetic and vibrant singer proved to the crowd that she can dance despite her stature. Mampi later sang the crowd’s favourite “Walilowelela” which drove fans into frenzy from toddlers to elders.
“Do you know what the song means? It’s about a beautiful girl,” she said.
She shocked the crowd when she climbed the stage bars and started to whine there.
Two men jumped on stage joining Mampi’s dancers who overshadowed Roki’s dancers and did a Beverly Sibanda in front of children.
Mampi and Roki closed their session with the hit song “Crazy”, which was a sing-along with the crowd.
