Churches play a pivotal role in promoting unity, peace and development in the country, Zanu PF National Chairman Cde Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri said yesterday in Gutu South.
Addressing thousands from the African Apostolic Church led by Archbishop Paul Mwazha during the Maungwa Holy Communion in Gutu South, Cde Muchinguri-Kashiri commended the church for rallying behind President Mnangagwa.
She described Archbishop Mwazha as a “staunch supporter of the ruling party”.
“The African Apostolic Church led by Mutumwa Paul Mwazha remains crucial in praying for unity, peace and development.
“As a party, we recognise Archbishop Mwazha as our long time, loyal cadre who even assisted Zimbabwe’s freedom fighters through prayers before, during and after the liberation struggle,” said Cde Muchinguri-Kashiri, amid applause from the congregants.
Cde Muchinguri-Kashiri encouraged the church members to participate meaningfully in Government initiatives such as fisheries, irrigation, and the Pfumvudza/Intwasa programme.
Chairperson of the Mwazha Priesthood, Bishop Alfred Kushamisa Mwazha, applauded the Government for the historic land reform and a raft of other policies that have empowered people.
“We will continue to support the ruling party, which freed us from colonial bondage.
“Most importantly, our Government is saluted for the successful Land Reform Programme and other robust policies,” he said.
The African Apostolic Church board chairperson, Bishop Elson Tafa, described the visit by Cde Muchinguri-Kashiri as an important gesture which reflects a strong bond between Zanu PF and the church.
