The Roman Catholic Church yesterday hosted a fundraising concert meant to raise over US$35 000 to support St Paul’s Musami General Hospital in Murewa.
Roman Catholic Jesuits communications officer Mr Kudakwashe Matambo said: “This concert is the second season circle of offering a helping hand to the mission and their hope to raise funds.
“We are more than delighted to host such an event meant to cater for the resuscitation of the Roman Catholic hospital.”
Mr Matambo said the previous fundraising concert raised funds that went towards procurement of an anaesthesia machine, digital X-rays, and theatre lights.
The concert — held at Old Hararians Sports Club — was hosted by the Jesuit Roman Catholic Coral Group.
“This time, it is their hope to expand the funds raised to help the hospital add new equipment.
“We felt there is a need to increase equipment to cater for more people at the hospital.”
There were performances by Roman Catholic coral groups, Father Mobi Musakatidza and popular contemporary musician Jah Prayzah.
High-ranking church officials attended the event.
St Paul’s Musami General Hospital is a satellite health institution that caters for more than 34 clinics along the Harare-Mutoko Road.
The mission hospital will celebrate its 100th anniversary this year.
