PROMINENT Dynamos and Warriors cheerleader, Romario Musekiwa, has condemned violent scenes that occurred at Chahwanda Stadium on Sunday.
Several fans were injured in skirmishes involving home team Hardrock and Dynamos supporters.
Property was also damaged as fans went berserk in a match that had a glaring low number of police details.
About 20 officers were seen in the middle of the fights exposing Hardrock’s failure to provide adequate security for the over 10 000 fans.
A total of 10 312 fans paid to watch the epic clash which was abandoned with 80 minutes played 1-1.
“We strongly condemn the acts of hooliganism and anti-football behaviour witnessed at Chahwanda Stadium, which forced the abandonment of the Hardrock FC versus Dynamos match. It was a bad advertisement for the local game,” said Musekiwa.
A number of fans were injured at the stadium and some outside.
“Several Dynamos supporters were seriously injured during the violence and we wish them a speedy recovery,” said the DeMbare cheerleader.
Musekiwa blamed the home team for providing a small number of police.
He called in police to use video and photographic footage to identify those that perpetrated the violence.
“Games of that magnitude demand adequate security details on the ground the ZRP, private guards and well trained marshals in crowd control. The PSL and police should make of use video evidence circulating to identify and bring to justice those responsible for the mayhem at Chahwanda Stadium,” said Musekiwa.
Problems started before the match and tempers gained momentum in the first half of play with both sets of fans questioning the usually on spot referee Mhaka Magare’s decisions.
The lanky match official entertained a lot of protestations by players and appeared reluctant to issue cards, something that appeared to agitate fans.
“We also urge Zifa and PSL to attend to poor officiating that keeps haunting our good game for the second season running.
“To the fans, we also ask you to enjoy the good game and let the game flow and let events on the pitch take their natural course. We say no to pitch invasion,” said Musekiwa.
