Meanwhile Wayne Rooney believes Manchester United’s stunning comeback against Chelsea could be the catalyst to retaining the Barclays Premier League title.
The Old Trafford club are two points adrift of fierce rivals Manchester City in the race for the title following their 3-3 comeback draw at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
United trailed the Blues 3-0 but two penalties from Rooney and a late equaliser by Javier Hernandez rescued a point for Sir Alex Ferguson’s men.
“We have shown that spirit so many times over the years and this point could win us the League,” said Rooney.
“At 3-0 down, a lot of teams would find it easy to let their heads drop and accept defeat but we carried on working hard and, thankfully, got something out of the game. We really had to dig in.”
City cruised to a 3-0 win over Fulham on Saturday evening but Rooney believes United stole a psychological march over their neighbours this weekend.
“Of course it’s two points lost, we understand that,” added Rooney.
“But after being 3-0 down all the City players at home won’t have enjoyed watching the way we fought back and the spirit of our team.
