And manager Louis van Gaal will not be taking any chances with the striker when his team opens their Euro campaign in the Phillips Stadium on Tuesday night. Van Gaal said: “I don’t want to take any risks with our captain.
“He is much too important for our team.
“So I don’t think he will play against PSV. It is a minor injury and I believe that he shall play against Southampton.”
Young forwards James Wilson and Andreas Pereira are both in the United squad for the PSV clash.
Meanwhile, an air of familiarity will pervade the Champions League return of PSV Eindhoven and Manchester United when they open their Group B campaign in the Netherlands tonight.
