THE Combined Rotary Clubs of Harare successfully hosted the End Polio Now fundraising Golf tournament at Wingate Park Golf Club in Harare recently with a good number of players taking part.

The tournament was aimed at raising funds to support the fight against polio.

Rotary Clubs of Harare – The Bridge, Harare West, Harare City, Harare Dawn, Highlands and Borrowdale Brooke with help from other Rotary Clubs, were proactive in acknowledgement of the World Polio Day, which was commemorated on October 24.

Penelope Guzha, one of the tournament organisers, said they had a successful tournament which was well supported by individuals and corporates who came on board to support the good cause.

“Polio is a debilitating disease that affects children and can result in paralysis and sometimes death. Rotary International has been working with the rest of the world on polio awareness and vaccination projects to eradicate the disease. While significant progress has been made in the last few decades, the risk still remains and no child is safe until the virus is completely wiped off.

Champions of polio programs require constant financial assistance to sustain their projects and the charity golf day was one of the several events meant to raise funds to contribute towards the effort,” she said.

“We have been encouraged by the support we received from companies such as such as Seedco, Econet Life, Hempac Sports, Stephen Margolis Resort, More Life Water, Switchgear Distribution, Exide Express and others who made the event a success.”
