ROW OVER MISSING EGGS ENDS IN TRAGEDY

A NIGHT out ended in tragedy when two drinking buddies got into a fight at a party in Banket over missing turkey eggs.

Cliff Churu (49), and Richmore Gomo (32), were confronted over the missing eggs at the party on July 22, 2022, and blamed each other, leading to a fight.

The argument escalated and Churu struck Gomo with a brick and he became unconscious.

Gomo was resuscitated but later died.

Churu was charged with murder but pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of culpable homicide.

High Court judge, Justice Cathrine Bachi-Muzawazi, found that Churu was not inherently a bad person and had offered Gomo shelter, but failed to exercise self-control.

Churu was sentenced to six years in prison with three years suspended for five years on good behaviour.

Justice Bachi-Muzawazi said Churu will be haunted by the blood he spilled and that no amount of money or prison term can bring back the life that was lost.

“He is not inherently a bad person. He looks unsophisticated and of below average intelligence.

“He acted as a good Samaritan by offering the victim shelter for close to a year.

“There is no record of violence between them during the duration of their stay together,” Justice Bachi-Muzawazi said.
