Rowdy MDC-T youths threaten ZBC crew

accusing the public broadcaster of reporting “negatively and falsehoods” about there party.

They accused one of the crew members of wearing a Zanu-PF T-shirt under his clothes. The crew’s – bureau chief Jackie Gwemende, cameraman Happyton Linday and driver Samuel Mudhluli – hurriedly got into their vehicle and fled.

The crew had initially been allowed to get into the stadium before some youths followed and ordered them to leave the venue.
“Imi muri vanhu veZanu-PF budai munonyora nhema (you are Zanu-PF people, you write lies, get out of the stadium),” one dreadlocked MDC-T member said as he charged towards Linday.

When other journalists drew closer to find out what was going on, a group of MDC-T youths swarmed the ZBC vehicle and threatened to beat up the whole team. Sensing danger, Gwemende then instructed her colleagues to get into the car and they quickly drove off.

Some youths then followed the speeding vehicle celebrating. A team from MDC-T leader Mr Morgan Tsvangirai’s office had to be engaged to allow the news crew into the venue but not before the greater part of the programme had been covered.
