THE annual Royal Vase and Bowl gets underway at Royal Harare this weekend with a number of clubs from in and around the capital taking part in the Matchplay competition. Chapman ‘A’ will, as usual, be the favourites to clinch the trophy given the club’s player resources.
With a talented cast that includes high-riding amateur Stuart Krog, who is likely to lead the team, recently-crowned Harare Province Amateur champion Thembelani Vundhla, David Amm and Pride Sembo, Chapman have a very strong team.
Tafadzwa Nyamukondiwa, Stembile Sibanda, Isaac Chakarara and Mthokozisi Masuku help make Chapman a formidable side with the club capable of fielding two teams.
Royal Harare could offer the biggest competition with a good team led by Garry Thompson and Gerald Shwabane.
Wingate also have a strong side, led by the experienced duo of Nicholas and Tonderai Masunga, and could have a big hand to play in the competition.
It’s likely that there will be an increased turnout this weekend for a tournament that has in previous years attracted other ‘Royal’ golf clubs from South Africa.
