WEEK Four of the Zimbabwe Women’s Premier Soccer League (ZWPSL) delivered a dazzling display of grit, grace and goals, a vivid testament to the growing fire and finesse in the women’s game across the nation.
Played over the weekend, the fixtures not only lit up stadiums but also reinforced the league’s rising competitiveness and popularity. The Platinum Royals stole the spotlight in dramatic fashion, demolishing Red Buffalo Sports Academy 13-0 at Vengere Stadium to soar to the top of the table for the first time this season.
This emphatic victory marks a milestone moment for the Royals, who now sit comfortably as league leaders, with a growing reputation for dominance.
Meanwhile, Chapungu Queens tightened their grip on second place with a commanding 4-0 win over Highlanders Royals, a tough loss for the Bulawayo side, who had just notched their first win the previous week, after two defeats.
Elsewhere, Black Rhinos Queens steam-rolled Sheasham Gweru Queens 7-0, while Kwekwe Queens sealed a tidy 2-0 win over Cranborne Royals. Black Mambas Queens were edged 2-1 by newcomers Maningi YSA in a closely contested match.
However, not all matches went ahead. Some were postponed due to national team call-ups, a move that ZWPSL board member Arthur Gorejena, defended passionately.
“The postponement of games due to national team call-ups is a necessary decision that prioritises the development of our players and the national team’s success,” said Gorejena.
“Representing the country is a significant opportunity for our athletes. We are committed to rescheduling these games and ensuring that our league continues to thrive while supporting our national team.”
As Week Five approaches, anticipation builds, with teams recalibrating strategies and sharpening skills, the race for supremacy is only just beginning.
