THE Zimbabwe Rugby Union, who have gone for more than a year without any activity in their sports code, have said they are ready for the resumption of their activities.

Simba Danga, the ZRU media officer, said there will be no compromise in terms of adhering to the protocols.

“The ZRU is ready to return to training, and playing, and we will adhere strictly to the WHO, MOHCW (Ministry of Health and Child Welfare) and SRC Covid standard operating procedures,’’ he said.

“Rugby, being a contact sport, will also follow the World Rugby Gradual Return to Play protocols, to ensure that we return to full physical contact.

“The Sables will troop into camp from May 15, until July 3, with possible friendlies against several national teams lined up.

“The Zimbabwe Sevens, the Cheetahs, have the SAS Rugby Africa Cup camp, from May 6 to 16, before they go for the Repechage on June 19 and 20. “The national Under-20 side, the Young Sables, will also be in action with yet-to-be-confirmed teams.

“The various provinces have yet to submit their league fixtures, once they do so, we will be able to map the way forward.’’

The Zimbabwe Netball Association have also said they can’t wait to get their programmes underway. ZINA president, Leticia Chipandu, said their constituency have been waiting for this development.

“We are extremely excited with the situation and we look forward to returning to action as this was something, which everyone, was looking forward to,’’ she said.

“We had some guidelines, which we always communicated to all affiliates, and we will continue to remind them of the rules.’’

Rainbow Amateur Netball League secretary-general, Moses Gukurume, said they will sit down and consider the way forward.

“As RANL, we got the information yesterday, about the possible resumption of sport, in Zimbabwe,’’ he said.

“We are still studying the protocols, and guidelines, as stipulated by the Government, through SRC.

“We are looking at the implications, financially, and also the implications on the time that we have, if we are to start the season.

“Remember, all teams need to put certain things in place, to guarantee compliance.’’
