ZANU PF supporters gathered on Sunday to pray for peace during and after today’s harmonised presidential elections.
The gathering was held at a traffic circle in E.D. Mnangagwa Road (formerly Enterprise Road) in Harare and it was attended by hundreds of Zanu PF supporters, pastors of different churches in Harare led by Reverend Timio Chuma and Government officials.
Event organiser Zanu PF local authority candidate for Ward 7 Cde Tarusenga Mushininga said the prayer session was to make sure that peace prevails during the polls.
“Today we have decided to pray for peace during the elections in our Mount Pleasant constituency, Harare and the country as a whole. We know that when putting people into leadership positions God comes first and he chooses the leaders of countries,” he said.
Rev Chuma said it was ideal for churches to pray for peace during the elections and to bring people together despite their political affiliations.
“Since God created us and this country, in everything we do we put God first, and as we go to vote tomorrow, we want God to lead the elections.
“As a church, we must ensure that there is peace before, during and after the elections. It is our role to make sure that people come together as one as we are one people before God.”
Zanu PF candidate for Mt Pleasant constituency Cde Beadle Gwasira said they saw it fit as a constituency to pray for peace during the polls and the nation at large.
“We have called leaders of different churches across the city to come and pray for peace ahead of the elections,” he said.
