THE Minister of State for Presidential Affairs and Monitoring Implementation of Government Programmes, Cde Dr Jorum Gumbo, has reiterated Government’s commitment to change the livelihoods of the rural populace for the better as part of efforts towards achieving the objectives of Vision 2030.
He was speaking after a tour of the Runde piped-water project in Mabasa in Runde last week. The project was built through devolution funds.
“I’m very much pleased by how the devolution funds were implemented here in Runde where there is a successful piped water project. This is a clear indication of how the Government is committed to changing the livelihoods of rural people and it’s a step towards achieving Vision 2030. I urge all of you to safeguard the project so that it will live up to expectation,” he said.
Apart from domestic use, the piped water scheme has got the capacity to support horticulture. Teachers and learners from Denge, Shiku and Venge in the same area are also set to benefit from the project. Headman Shiku said the project will bring relief to villagers as for a long time they have been having problems in accessing clean water.
“We used to walk long distances to fetch water from wells, dams and even rivers.
“Now safe and clean water has been brought to our doorsteps. I don’t have much words but to thank the Government and the RDC. The availability of water has helped us because now we are able to focus on other issues and we can now start gardening projects,” he said.
