RURAL communities have welcomed advancements in information communication (ICT) following the launch of community information centres.
Government, through POTRAZ, launched a Community Information Centre in Zhombe.
CICs were launched in rural areas to ensure no one would be left behind in accessing up-to-date information through the internet.
Chief Gwesela told H-Metro the move to develop rural areas, through access to information, will largely contribute to economic development in the area.
“The facilities are user friendly and will facilitate research in rural and marginalised areas.
“The majority of the population earns a living through agricultural activities, hence farmers will be able to research farming methods and techniques,” he said.
Chief Gwesela said the facility will also accord students the opportunity to access information which may not be available in textbooks.
“The centre is user friendly as it accommodates people living with disabilities with materials they need.
“We are looking forward to more of these developments, especially in rural areas, so that rural people are not left behind.
“The world is moving towards a digital economy, which requires that people are well informed, and transfer information to different parts of the world,” he said.
