Government will take this year’s International Women’s Day commemorations to rural women to help them understand and appreciate the significance of the day, a Cabinet Minister has said. Speaking at a press conference in Harare yesterday, Women and Youth Affairs Minister Sithembiso Nyoni said this year’s celebrations would be held at Gwelutshena Business Centre, Nkayi, Matabeleland North.
“The fact that 80 percent of the Zimbabwean women reside in rural areas, this year we have taken a paradigm shift and have decided to take International Women’s Day to the rural women for them to understand and appreciate the importance of the commemorations,” said Minister Nyoni.
“On this day, we celebrate the economic, political and social achievements of women, their courage and significant determination in contributing to the country’s well-being. It is also a day to reflect on the progress made in the advancement of women’s issues.”
