Lovemore Kadzura in Rusape
A RUSAPE man who slashed and burned his workmate with a lit log and burning melting plastic till he passed out was last Friday jailed for five years.
Elliot Jichichi (33) was convicted by Rusape regional magistrate, Mr Livingstone Chipadza who suspended two years of the sentence on condition of good behaviour.
He was facing attempted murder charges as defined in Section 189 of Criminal Law (Codification and Reform Act, Chapter 9.23) after attempting to kill Didymus Mwedziwendira accusing him of having an affair with his wife, Brenda Nguruve.
Jichichi of Lone Kop Farm, denied the charges, but admitted to have assaulted Mwedziwendira.
Testifying in court, Mwedziwendira said Jichichi was accusing him of having an affair with his wife and he was severely assaulted all over the body by a hand grass-cutting blade and tobacco clippers besides being burnt on his manhood with a burning log and melting plastic.
“He took me from the compound bar and forced me into his house. While we were inside, he used a hand grass-cutting blade and tobacco clippers to assault me.
“He was forcing me to admit that I was in love with his wife. He also assaulted his wife forcing a confession from her that she was in love with me.
“He then stripped me and his wife naked and locked the door from outside. He peeped through the window and ordered us to have sex while he was watching. We did not have sex.
“After realising that we were not having sex he came in with two burning logs and sheets of plastic material. He started burning me all over the body, but mainly concentrating on my private parts.
“I was seriously injured and was in excruciating pain. I pleaded with him to stop, but he did not.
“After a while, he then instructed his wife to drag me to my home since I was no longer able to stand or walk. I was naked when she was dragging me. I do not know whether I reached home or not because I passed out and later gained consciousness at Rusape General Hospital,” he said.
Mr James Wirima prosecuted.
