adminDUBAI — Zimbabwe’s first class cricket umpire Langton Rusere is excited to be officiating as an umpire in the ongoing series against India. For the first time he was a TV umpire in the inaugural ODI series on Friday and again yesterday, he was in front of the TV at Harare Sports Club during the second of the three ODI matches.
Born on Team India’s regular captain (ODI) Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s birthday on July 7, Rusere (30) is five years younger than Dhoni.
Speaking exclusively over his mobile from Harare yesterday before the commencement of the match, he said:
“I haven’t had the opportunity to meet with M.S. Dhoni, which is unfortunate because I think he is a great cricketer, but I can’t say I’m a ‘fan’ of his because I’ve grown to just see bowlers and batsmen and not idolise them”.
“My on field debut will be on 19 July during the second T20 in the Zimbabwe v India series. This is my first tour on the ICC international panel”.
“I’m chuffed to be officiating during the Zimbabwe v India series. I’ve been to India for an ICC workshop for umpire coaches. Straight from Nagpur, July 2013, I came back and took part in the first ODI in the Zimbabwe v India series as a 4th umpire”, he adds.
“India is a great cricket playing/supporting nation and I’m looking forward to the challenge,” he signed off.
