MARITZBURG United striker Evans Rusike says he is happy at the club and he is looking forward to a great 2016/ 2017 Absa Premiership season.
Rusike had a stellar performance in the 2015 /2016 Absa Premiership term where he played a key role as United survived relegation.
His performances saw him attract the attention of Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns but Maritzburg refused to entertain any offers and were determined to keep Rusike, a decision the Zimbabwean international respects.
a?Iam happy at Maritzburg,a? said Rusike.
a?I still have a contract with Maritzburg and if I was going to leave, it was going to be Maritzburgas decision,a? added the former Hwange forward.
He insisted that he was not perturbed after a move to Kaizer Chiefs did not materialise, as he aimed to do better than last season for his KwaZulu-Natal club.
Despite Maritzburgas struggles last season, Rusike shone in attack, scoring nine goals including two vital strikes against Jomo Cosmos on the last day of the season to help his side escape relegation.
The Zimbabwean striker, who joined the Team of Choice at the start of last season from Hwange FC, is hoping to contribute even more this campaign.
a?Iam just hoping for the best. I scored eight goals after the halfway mark of the season and Iam hoping to better that,a? he said.
Rusike was named Player of the Season last term at United a development that saw him attract widespread interest with his performances, and was rumoured to be high up on the wish list of Chiefs.
Maritzburg United kicked off their season with a clash against Bloemfontein Celtic on Wednesday.
