Afro-jazz singer Rute Mbangwa recently released a single with a Zimbabwean township music feel titled “Kuri Kutonhora”.
The single which is receiving fair airplay on radio stations features urban grooves singer Cindy Munyavi and will be featured on her upcoming album due in October.
“I last released a single in Harare early last year, so I just felt its high time that I just drop something while I will be putting final touches to my new album to be released in October,” she said.
Of late, Rute who has been absent on the limelight promised her fans a number of shows saying she had been failing to hold regular shows due to reasons beyond her control.
“I have not been totally out but I promise my fans that I am going to hold shows and I have already started with a collaboration show that I am doing at the Book Café with Edith WeUtonga, the next one will be on the 29th of this month,” she said.
Her multi-themed upcoming double album will feature six-tracks with a gospel message and 10 secular tracks.
“I have tried to cater for all ages and different tastes in music, it is a mixed bag with different moods and messages,” she said.
After 10 years as a solo artiste, the singer-songwriter has shown that she was passionate about her music and the arts.
She trained as a jazz vocalist at the Zimbabwe College of Music and worked with Tanga wekwaSando. She once performed on the same stage with Kenyan Kunle Ayo, Oliver Mtukudzi, Judith Sephuma, Ringo Madhlingozi and Jimmy Dludlu at several jazz festivals.
Her highlight was when she performed at the Standard Bank National Youth Jazz Festival in Grahamstown, South Africa, in 2007. She is also the founding lead singer of the band Jazz Sensation.
