Ruwa businessman Mutangadura shot dead in suspected armed robbery

UPDATE :

PROMINENT businessman Joseph Mutangadura, affectionately known as Mutangaz, was gunned down last night at his Lisheen Estate farmhouse in Ruwa.
The circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear, leaving the community in disbelief and mourning.


Mutangadura, a well-known figure in the business world, was the owner of Lisheen Estate and the popular Mutangadura Hideout, along with several butcheries and other ventures.
A team of detectives from the CID Homicide in Harare has been dispatched to the scene to investigate the incident.
Authorities have indicated that a detailed statement will be released soon, providing more information on this tragic event.

Details emerge in the shooting of businessman Mutangaz
According to sources, investigations made so far have revealed that the prominent businessman was shot dead by seven suspected robbers at his Lisheen Estate farmhouse.
Sources indicate that the robbers raided the farm and confronted Mutangadura, demanding cash.
It is alleged that he informed the robbers that he had no cash on him and that all the daily takings were in the abattoir.
They then shot him in the stomach before firing more than five additional shots into his chest before fleeing the scene.
In an interview, national police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident.
“I am still waiting for the details of the case and will soon issue a comprehensive statement on what transpired,” he said.

Police speak on Mutangadura’s murder case
Police have intensified investigations into the case in which the prominent businessman Joseph Mutangadura, popularly known as Mtangaz, was shot dead by seven suspected robbers at his Lisheen Estate farmhouse in Ruwa on Sunday.
Mutangadura owned Lisheen Estate, the popular Mutangadura Hideout, several butcheries, and various other businesses.


In a statement, national police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said, “The Zimbabwe Republic Police is investigating cases of murder and robbery, which occurred at a farm along Dustain Road, Ruwa, popularly known as Mutangadura Hideout, on 17th August 2025 at around 2300 hours, where businessman Joseph Mutangadura, aged 67, was shot dead during a suspected robbery incident. Seven unknown suspects, who were armed with unidentified pistols, claw bars, and hammers, while covering their faces with balaclavas, pounced on the business premises, where they attacked the security guard who was securing the premises.


“They tied his hands with shoelaces and took him to the victim’s house, where they broke in through the door using metal bars.”
He said the suspects forced the security guard and the victim’s son to lie down in the dining room while proceeding to the room where the victim was sleeping with his wife.
“The suspects shot the victim in the stomach and ransacked the house before leaving. The victim and his wife, who were both unconscious, were rushed to Eden Hospital, Windsor, Ruwa, where the victim was pronounced dead upon arrival. The details and value of the stolen property are yet to be verified. More details will be released in due course.”


A team of detectives from the CID Homicide in Harare was then deployed to the farm to conduct investigations.

Mutangadura burial set for Saturday

Businessman Mr Joseph Mutangadura is expected to be buried on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at Goromonzi Turnoff Cemetery.

This was confirmed by his son, Mr Munyaradzi Mutangadura.

“He will be buried on August 23, on Saturday,” he said.

Mash East seeks national hero status for Mutangadura

ZANU PF Mashonaland East Province has submitted a request to the ruling party to confer national hero status on businessman Cde Joseph Mutangadura.

Cde Mutangadura was an active party member at the district level in Goromonzi.

ZANU PF Mashonaland East provincial political commissar Cde Lincoln Matare confirmed that the province had written to the party leadership requesting national hero status for Cde Mutangadura due to his immense contribution to the nation and party.

“We have applied to the national party leadership for Cde Mutangadura to be declared a national hero because of the role he played in developing the country after independence and supporting party activities. Cde Mutangadura was one of the new crop of indigenous businesspeople who created employment for the youth and contributed immensely to the growth of the country’s economy,” said Cde Matare.

ZANU PF Central Committee member Cde Munyaradzi Kashambe said Cde Mutangadura served the party as a district member.

“He contributed immensely to the party and the nation at large. He employed more than 500 people and paid school fees for more than 200 students from underprivileged families, hence deserved the recognition,” said Cde Kashambe.

No arrests yet in Mutangadura case

POLICE have dismissed as false, social media reports suggesting that a suspect has been arrested in connection with the murder of businessman Mr Joseph Mutangadura at his house in Ruwa during a suspected armed robbery on Sunday night.

Yesterday, Zimbabweans woke up to messages flooding social media platforms alleging that one of the suspects had been arrested.

The social media messages even went on to give details of the alleged arrest.

In one post on Facebook, a message suggested that the said suspect was arrested in the Gazebo area after gunfire exchange with the law enforcement agents, who eventually cornered and apprehended him.

The post went on to say that after the suspect was arrested, he revealed that some of his colleagues were staying in Epworth.

However, police dismissed the posts as false.

In an interview with Zimpapers yesterday, national police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the public should desist from spreading false information.

“People should disregard what is being circulated on social media. The police will officially pronounce any developments regards the Mutangadura incident. Those who are putting information on social media which is not verified should be careful, lest they interfere with investigations and in the process derail what the police is doing,” Comm Nyathi said.

He said investigations were ongoing.
