Uvukile Umalambane hit-maker, Mxolisi “Mr Bones” Ndlovu, successfully launched his 10th album, Ugobela Usagqiza, in South Africa (SA) recently and the new release is already making waves.

Known for his savvy use of social media to promote his work, the SA-based Rhumba artiste’s latest project features renowned bassist Obert Vundla, also known as Isangoma seBass, alongside his regular collaborators Handsome, Mzansi, and TK.

While Mr Bones is praised for his melodious voice, the standout feature of this album is the impressive guitar work, especially the ‘talking’ rhythm guitar that is a constant presence throughout the tracks. The album includes songs such as Ngicela’Iziwatsho, Ugobela Usagqiza, Ziyagodela eMaweni, Bangihlangabeze ngeCase, Ibhanti Likimi, Kofa Ntjeli, and Ugqoka Emakuleni. Since its release, some tracks like Bangihlangabeze ngeCase have sparked social media challenges, while the title track has stirred debate as fans seek to decipher its deeper meaning.

Reflecting on the launch, Mr Bones said: “The event went well, but some fans faced challenges with law enforcement due to improper documentation for being in South Africa. Some were arrested, while others paid fines. I feel for them because they were coming to support us.”

Despite these setbacks, Mr Bones is pleased with the album’s reception. “The album is selling well, and those who couldn’t attend the launch have made efforts to get their hands on it.”

Local fans will not be missing out on the action as Mr Bones is set to host another launch at Palace Hotel Gardens in Bulawayo this Friday, before heading to Filabusi for a follow-up event on Saturday.

Speaking about his upcoming shows in Zimbabwe, he said: “We’re coming home to Bulawayo on Friday, and the next day we’ll be in Filabusi. Fans can expect a great show with my whole team. We’ll also be joined by the most trending Rhumba artiste on social media, Nkinga uMatrabuli, and his Khakhaka Band.”

Inspired by the likes of Solomon Skuza, Ndux Malax and Ndolwane Super Sounds, Mr Bones, one of the most consistent Rhumba artistes, has steadily grown his fan base over the years.
