SA businesses rally to bring drought relief

DURBAN. — South African businesses have come together to bring relief to parts of the country severely affected by the recent drought.

The Willowton Group, which has donated R1m towards drought relief, on Saturday delivered six trucks of water to Winburg in the Northern Cape and Vryburg in the Free State with more trucks set to leave for the Eastern Cape today.

In a statement, the group yesterday said QPET, a well known bottle manufacturer, has assisted the cause and will be donating 100 000 five litre bottles, which Willowton Group has committed to filling with water.

Meanwhile packaging manufacturer, the Corruseal Group, has offered to donate 25 000 boxes in which the filled bottles will be packed for ease in transportation, the statement said. Willowton Group spokesperson, Shoaib Moosa, said the company considered it their duty to “assist our fellow countrymen during these desperate times”. “Last week’s unprecedented heatwave placed enormous pressure on the nation’s already limited resources and this donation will provide some vital relief,” said Moosa. Willowton Group and QPET have joined the #OperationHydrate campaign initiated by a number of South Africans who hope to bring respite to desperate citizens. Moosa encouraged other businesses to follow suit.

“We really want to encourage other corporates to match or beat these donations during this difficult time, assisting with the provision or distribution of water to drought-stricken areas,” he said. — News24.
